This is a crucial Zen term, associated with Nanquan Puyuan (748-835; J. Nansen Fugan) of Tang China, that points to the very heart of Zen. It is one of the ideas most highly cherished in the Soto school of Zen Buddhism. The state of being the way you really are, your conscious “self” abandoned, is what is called “shin jo hei,” virtually the same as “Buji kore kinin.”
